Hello everyone. I have been looking online and spending countless hours looking at the rules for ferret ownership and have come back with mixed results. Some say you can own 3 ferrets. Others say they are totally banned. Most say you can't breed or trade them. I think this needs a bit of discussion.

Hi Furrball, the 3 ferrets rule only apply to existing ferret owner back in 2002. since you can't breed or trade them, there is no way to replace them, they simply die out in private hand.
Dam it, I missed the ferret smell off my sock drawer.

no capture, no transport, no display. Like happyferret said. even taking ferret to the vet is a risk....if the un-train nurse or the person sitting next to you decide to call DOC.......
If you want one now, you have to trap a wild one. black market prefer to export them to Japan.

The more info that is gathered the more unclear everything becomes:
As per 7C (1) - (...keep in captivity for the purposes of farming, breeding, or selling).
Schedule 8 was created on 6 December 1983 and contradicts all mystical current laws!
I am sure none of us will farm, breed or sell if we capture wild ferrets for domestic pet purposes so, as per 7C (1), we seem to be OK...

Yea I can see what you mean. Out of everything I have read I still can't work out the rules. They are very conflicting. If you look at different councils the rules are different???
